Ireland HSE gender healthcare working group sees member departures

The Health Service Executive (HSE) is developing a new model of care for gender healthcare in Ireland. A working group established in 2025, comprising clinicians and various LGBTQ+ organizations, has seen recent shifts in membership.

Trans Healthcare Action (THA) and the Professional Association for Trans Health Ireland (PATHI) have decided to withdraw from the working group. Other organizations, including TENI, LGBT Ireland, Belong To, and the autism charity AsIAm, have chosen to remain in the group to continue advocating for patient-centered, depathologized, and locally accessible gender-affirming healthcare.

Advocates emphasize the need to address systemic issues, such as long waiting lists and invasive assessment processes, to create a compassionate healthcare system that meets the needs of the trans and gender-diverse community.
