Ireland increases National Childcare Scheme income thresholds
The Irish government has announced updates to the National Childcare Scheme, increasing income thresholds for income-assessed subsidies and adjusting the Multiple Child Discount. These changes are expected to benefit the families of 47,000 children by providing higher levels of financial support.
The lower income threshold for these subsidies has risen from €26,000 to €34,000, allowing families earning up to this amount to qualify for the maximum subsidy rate. Additionally, the upper income threshold has been increased from €60,000 to €68,000, expanding the number of households eligible for higher income-assessed rates.
Under the scheme, all eligible families can apply for a universal subsidy of up to €96.30 per week for a maximum of 45 weekly hours, regardless of family income. The adjustments aim to alleviate financial pressure on working parents amidst rising living costs.
