Ireland names Indian-born all-rounder Jay Moondra for India T20 series

Jay Moondra, a 28‑year‑old all‑rounder born in Tonk, Rajasthan, has been named in Ireland’s senior men’s cricket squad for the T20 series against India in June 2026.

Moondra moved to Ireland in 2021 to pursue a master’s in electronics and communications, continued playing club cricket for Leinster, obtained Irish citizenship in 2025, and impressed selectors with his left‑arm spin and hard‑hitting batting. He becomes the second Asian‑born player to represent Ireland after Simmi Singh.

The two‑match series will be played in Belfast on 26 and 28 June, giving Moondra a chance to face the Indian side that includes young star Vaibhav Suryavanshi. His selection has been celebrated in his hometown and noted for a unique family link – his brother has previously played for the Swedish national team.
