Ireland recalls chicken products from major supermarkets over salmonella

The Food Safety Authority of Ireland (FSAI) announced a recall of numerous chicken products after detecting salmonella. The recall covers batches produced by Western Brand sold at major retailers including Lidl, Aldi, Tesco and Dunnes. Affected items have use‑by dates ranging from 5 May to 14 May 2026 and include whole chickens, fillets, drumsticks, and prepared cuts.

Consumers are advised to check freezers for the listed batches and either discard the products or return them to the point of sale. Symptoms of salmonella infection can include diarrhoea, fever, abdominal cramps and headache, typically appearing within 12‑36 hours and lasting several days. The elderly, infants and immunocompromised individuals are at higher risk of severe illness.

The FSAI stresses that the recalled products, even those past their use‑by dates, remain safe for home freezing but should not be consumed without proper cooking. Recall notices are being displayed in stores.
