Schools in Ireland and Hungary targeted by bomb threats

Multiple schools in Ireland and Hungary have been targeted by bomb threats, prompting security sweeps and temporary closures.

In Ireland, more than 150 schools across Dublin, Kildare, Donegal, Carlow, Cork, and Laois received threatening emails. Some messages included claims of being sent by Hamas militants and detailed the use of vacuum-sealed explosive devices. While some schools in Donegal and other regions delayed opening or closed as a precaution, many continued to operate under the guidance of An Garda Síochána. Authorities are currently assessing the credibility of these communications, with some sources describing the incident as an elaborate hoax.

In Hungary, at least ten schools in Budapest received threatening letters. Specifically, Kontyfa Primary School and Secondary School and Pestújhelyi Primary School in the 15th district were affected. Police conducted searches of the buildings and, while no explosives were found, the National Bureau of Investigation (NNI) has launched an investigation into the preparation of a terrorist act. Students were temporarily relocated to community centers and other schools to ensure their safety.
