Ireland selects ‘Aontas’ for Oscar Best International Feature category

The Irish Film & Television Academy (IFTA) has selected the Irish-language heist thriller ‘Aontas’ as Ireland’s official submission for the Best International Feature Film category at the 99th Academy Awards.

Directed by Damian McCann and written by McCann alongside Sarah Gordon, the film utilizes a reverse chronological narrative. It follows three unlikely thieves, led by a woman experiencing a mental breakdown, who attempt to rob a rural Irish Credit Union. The story begins with the tragic aftermath of the failed heist.

The film stars Carrie Crowley, Bríd Brennan, Eva-Jane Gaffney, Seán T. Ó Meallaigh, Marcus Lamb, and Art Parkinson. It was produced by Órfhlaith Ní Chearnaigh and Christopher Myers for Púca Pictures, with support from TG4, BBC Gaeilge, and Northern Ireland Screen’s Irish Language Broadcast Fund.
