Ireland transport disruptions expected during bank holiday weekend
Significant disruptions to rail and bus services are expected across Ireland during the upcoming bank holiday weekend, driven by essential engineering works, infrastructure projects, and event-related road closures.
In Dublin, DART services will face major restrictions from Saturday, October 24, to Monday, October 26, 2026. Services will not operate between Grand Canal Dock and Bray, nor between Howth and Howth Junction, resulting in the closure of 17 stations. Trains will be limited to running between Malahide and Grand Canal Dock. These works include platform height modifications to accommodate a new fleet of commuter trains equipped with automatic ramps.
Further complications arise from the Dublin Marathon on Sunday, which will cause widespread street closures and numerous Dublin Bus diversions. Additionally, the approach of Storm Boelo is expected to bring heavy rain to the Dublin area. Regional rail links in Clare, Limerick, and Galway will also be affected by ongoing engineering projects. Irish Rail has advised travelers to check revised timetables and bus replacement schedules via its official website or app.
