Ireland weather: Heavy rain and wind cause widespread power outages
Severe weather, including high winds and heavy rain, has caused widespread disruption across Ireland. More than 40,000 properties were reported without electricity due to approximately 148 active faults following the storm.
Met Éireann issued Status Yellow rain warnings for Dublin, Louth, Meath, and Monaghan, effective from 11pm until 6am Wednesday. Additional rain warnings were in place for Wexford and Wicklow until 4am. The heavy rainfall has raised concerns regarding localized flooding, reduced visibility, and hazardous driving conditions.
The storm also caused physical damage and infrastructure issues. In Swords, County Dublin, the Dublin Fire Brigade responded to an incident where a falling tree brought power lines down onto a stationary vehicle. Widespread power outages affected various regions, including Dublin, Wicklow, Kerry, Cork, and several midland counties.
