Iren workers declare state of agitation over safety and staffing

Labor unions at the multiutility group Iren have declared a state of agitation following what they describe as sterile institutional discussions and a lack of concrete responses to worker concerns.

The unions cite several critical issues, including a significant lack of structural industrial investment, reduced staffing levels, and unsustainable workloads. They claim these conditions are compromising operational safety and the quality of essential services, such as electricity, gas, water, and environmental services. Recent blackouts in Turin have been highlighted as symptomatic of these systemic issues.

Union representatives are demanding a change in governance, calling for adherence to existing agreements, genuine collective bargaining to address economic and regulatory gaps, and better protections for staff during corporate acquisitions or contract changes. They have warned against prioritizing shareholder dividends over infrastructure and personnel.
