Irena Beqiraj criticizes legislative moves toward state corporatization

Deputy Irena Beqiraj has criticized recent legislative actions in the Assembly, arguing that the current political climate and certain laws represent a form of “fascism” that threatens political freedom. She contends that attacks on deputies based on their political convictions undermine democratic principles.

Beqiraj specifically raised concerns regarding public procurement rules, which are designed to ensure competition, transparency, and the prevention of corruption. She argued that the legalization of the “Kayo model” in the military and IT services has facilitated “state corporatization,” potentially allowing budget funds to be transferred to private entities without adequate oversight or transparency.

Furthermore, she noted that a similar model is being proposed for the healthcare sector. While the Minister of Health described the Prime Minister’s initiative as one of the best measures to ensure medicine availability for citizens, Beqiraj warned that such laws allow state agencies to enter into agreements with private companies without competitive bidding, effectively bypassing standard procurement protections.
