Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan has advocated for Yashasvi Jaiswal to receive more regular playing time in One Day International (ODI) matches. Pathan emphasized that Jaiswal, who currently serves as a backup opener, needs consistent opportunities to ensure he is prepared for future major tournaments, such as the ODI World Cup in South Africa.

India is scheduled to face the West Indies in a three-match ODI series starting September 27, 2026. Because several key players, including Shreyas Iyer, Axar Patel, and Washington Sundar, are participating in the Asian Games, India has named a second-string squad for the series. This lineup includes debutants or early call-ups such as Naman Dhir, Auqib Nabi, and Nitish Kumar Reddy, providing a platform to test the team's bench strength.
