IRGC Commander vows revenge for assassinated Sunni cleric in Zahedan
Major General Ahmad Vahidi, Commander-in-Chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), has pledged to avenge the assassination of Molvi Yusuf Gargij, a prominent Sunni cleric in Zahedan.
Gargij, the imam of the Mohammad Rasulollah Mosque, was reportedly shot by unidentified armed individuals outside his home. He was known for his work promoting unity between Sunni and Shia Muslims in the Sistan and Baluchestan province. According to Iranian reports, he is the second Sunni cleric to be killed by unidentified assailants in the region this year.
In a statement, Vahidi condemned the killing, attributing the act to ‘mercenary terrorists’ and describing it as a sign of desperation by the United States and Israel. The IRGC emphasized that the assassination would not diminish Gargij’s influence or his mission of social cohesion.
