Iúri Leitão to lead Portugal at Track Cycling World Championships

Iúri Leitão, a double Olympic medalist from Paris 2024, will lead a six-member Portuguese squad to the UCI Track Cycling World Championships in Shanghai, China, held from October 14 to 18.

The Portuguese Cycling Federation announced that the men's team includes Ivo Oliveira, Diogo Narciso, and Miguel Salgueiro. The women's representatives will be Maria Martins and Daniela Campos. Notably, Rui Oliveira, Leitão’s partner in the Paris Olympic madison gold medal win, is not included in this selection.

National selector Gabriel Mendes emphasized that this championship is highly significant as it serves as the first event to award points toward the Olympic qualification rankings for the Los Angeles 2028 Games. The team's medium-term goal is to secure successful qualification for LA2028 by prioritizing results in Olympic-style events and endurance races that contribute to UCI rankings.
