Former Romanian businessman Irinel Columbeanu, once worth more than €100 million, now resides at the Ghermănești nursing home. Director Ion Cassian notes that Columbeanu arrived with only a few boxes of expensive clothing and books, and he spends his days drinking coffee in the garden, reading and socialising with other residents, though he avoids gardening tasks. At 69, he has suffered three strokes and must be monitored, hydrated and take medication, with a medical assistant accompanying him outside the home. Recent court proceedings saw a mobile‑phone provider claim a €1,800 debt, which was dismissed after a nominal €42 judgment.
