Irineo Álvarez honored by University of Sonora

Actor Irineo Álvarez was honored by the University of Sonora during a screening of the documentary miniseries ‘Así sabe el Río Sonora’. The institution presented him with a recognition for his role as the presenter of the project.

During the event at the Emiliana de Zubeldía Theater, Álvarez reflected on his professional journey, noting that his training in the university’s free workshops and his roots in the Río Sonora region have been essential to his career in film, theater, and television. He shared that while he initially attempted to distance himself from his origins in Guadalupe de Ures upon moving to Hermosillo, he eventually embraced his identity, stating, ‘the suit I wanted to take off is the suit that is opening doors for me.’

Álvarez also recounted professional experiences where his background was a point of interest, including auditions involving Jennifer López and Tommy Lee Jones, where he proudly identified his training at the University of Sonora.
