Irish athletes prepare for World Triathlon Championships and new swimming programme

Team Ireland has announced its participation in the 2026 World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain. The event includes Elite, Junior, and Paratriathlon categories. James Corbett will make his debut in the Elite Men’s race, currently holding a strong position in the Olympic Qualification Rankings for Los Angeles. In the Paratriathlon category, Chloe MacCombe and Judith MacCombe are scheduled to compete in the Women’s PTVI category.

Separately, Swim Ireland has unveiled its National Programme for the 2026–2027 season, selecting 68 athletes across three cohorts: Performance, Senior Pathway, and Junior Pathway. The Performance group, which includes Olympic champion Daniel Wiffen and European Championship medallists Ellen Walshe and Mona McSharry, is primarily focused on the LA 2028 Olympic Games. The program aims to benchmark athletes against international standards for future World Championship and Olympic success.

Additionally, Triathlon Ireland and Cycling Ireland are launching a fully funded ‘Women in Sport: Making Waves Leadership Programme’ in late 2026. The initiative provides training, mentoring, and networking to support women in club-level leadership roles.
