Irish councils approve major housing development plans in Galway and Cork

Kingston Stables Limited has submitted a proposal to Galway City Council for a 133‑unit housing scheme in the Knocknacarra area. The plan includes a mix of 3‑ and 4‑bed townhouses, duplex houses and apartments, as well as a new café, pedestrian and cycle links, green spaces, 192 bicycle spaces and 143 car parking spaces. An Environmental Impact Assessment and a Natura Impact Statement have been filed, and the public may comment until early September, with a decision due on 21 September.

Cork County Council has adopted a new development plan that rezones land to enable up to 50,000 new homes over the next decade. The baseline target is 38,370 homes, with the potential for an additional 13,000. The plan follows national housing policy and the 2025 National Planning Framework. County Mayor Bernard Moynihan and Chief Executive Moira Murrell highlighted the plan’s role in meeting projected population growth and supporting sustainable community development.
