Cullera villa tragedy: Couple dies in jacuzzi suction accident
An Irish couple, Thomasina Tobin, 51, and Patrick Tobin, 48, have died following a tragic accident in a jacuzzi at a luxury villa in Cullera, Spain. The couple, who resided in London, was discovered by their two teenage children at the Colina del Sol complex.
Spanish investigators believe the deaths were caused by a technical failure in the jacuzzi's suction system. Preliminary findings suggest that the powerful hydraulic vacuum trapped Mr. Tobin underwater. Investigators believe Mrs. Tobin died while attempting a desperate rescue attempt. While marks and scratches were found on both bodies, autopsy results indicated that the cause of death was likely cardiac arrest brought on by extreme physical exertion and panic rather than drowning.
Local authorities have ruled out foul play and electrical shock. The victims' children, who both have special needs, were left traumatized by the discovery. Relatives have traveled to Spain to care for them, and the Irish Department of Foreign Affairs is providing consular assistance to the family.
