Irish DPP drops charges against partner of double killer Derek Boyd

The Director of Public Prosecutions in Ireland announced that it will not seek a retrial and has entered a nolle prosequi on the single charge against Chantelle Harcourt. Harcourt, the 34‑year‑old partner of Derek Boyd, had been accused of impeding his prosecution by giving a false statement to Gardaí after Boyd fatally stabbed Mark Carroll, a father of four, on 9 June 2024. A three‑week trial at the Central Criminal Court ended with a hung jury, and the judge remanded Harcourt on bail. Following the jury’s deadlock, the DPP decided to drop all charges, and Harcourt was discharged from the indictment. Boyd, 31, was earlier this week sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of Carroll, having previously served a suspended sentence for killing his sister.
