Irish EU Council Presidency Holds Brazil Event and Calls Ceuta Migration Meeting

The Irish presidency of the Council of the European Union hosted an official ceremony in Brasília, inviting the vice‑prefect of Goiânia. The gathering highlighted democratic values, security cooperation and the strengthening of Brazil‑EU ties, including discussion of the Mercosur‑EU agreement and opportunities for economic development in Goiás.

In parallel, the Irish EU presidency convened an Integrated Political Crisis Response (IPCR) meeting to address the sudden influx of migrants into the Spanish enclave of Ceuta from Morocco. Irish Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan expressed solidarity with Spain’s interior minister, while EU officials coordinated assistance, diplomatic talks with Morocco and a follow‑up meeting of member‑state ambassadors to monitor the situation, which has seen tens of thousands of arrivals and dozens of deaths.
