Irish government targets tradwife trend as US influencer Nara Smith steps back
Influencer Nara Smith, a 24‑year‑old TikTok star with more than 12 million followers, has publicly distanced herself from the “tradwife” label. New York Times columnist Jessica Grose wrote that Smith’s retreat reflects a broader cultural shift away from the Trump‑aligned gender‑role aesthetic that once seemed popular online.
In Ireland, the Department of Children and Equality unveiled an action plan to launch a public‑awareness campaign in 2025 aimed at countering the influence of “tradwife” and “manosphere” content. The plan seeks to promote shared caring responsibilities between men and women and to protect women’s participation in the workforce. It will use radio, TV and online advertising and provide information on family‑leave and social‑welfare schemes. The campaign also references controversial “manosphere” figures such as Andrew Tate, whose content has been linked to misogynistic attitudes.
Both pieces illustrate growing concern in the United States and Ireland over online trends that promote traditional gender roles and the potential impact on gender equality.
