Irmak Ayşe Koparan's death leads to investigation and ministerial meeting in Turkey

Irmak Ayşe Koparan, a 24‑year‑old kindergarten teacher from Ağrı’s Hamur district, was found dead in her home on 9 June. Her body was transferred to İzmir, where a funeral service was held in Torbalı and attended by family members, the town mayor and other locals.

The Ağrı public prosecutor’s office has opened a broad criminal investigation into the circumstances of her death. The Education‑Bir‑Sen teachers’ union, of which Koparan was a member, has demanded a swift resolution. Union leader Ali Yalçın visited Justice Minister Akın Gürlek to press for a thorough and rapid conclusion to the probe, while the Ministry of Education assigned inspectors to examine the case further.
