Iron Software funds human‑led river barrier to clear plastic from Bangkok's Bang Kachao

Iron Software announced a partnership with the non‑profit Seven Clean Seas to finance the installation and year‑long operation of a floating river barrier in Bang Kachao, Thailand. The system aims to capture about 200 tonnes of plastic waste this year before it reaches the Gulf of Thailand, emphasizing a human‑led approach over fully automated technology.

The initiative highlights that roughly 70 % of ocean plastic originates from rivers, with the Chao Phraya River carrying waste from inland communities into the sea. Bang Kachao, a mangrove‑rich peninsula often called Bangkok’s “green lung,” is a focal point for such pollution. Tom Peacock‑Mayson, CEO of Seven Clean Seas, said, "If you draw a map of poverty and overlay it with a map of plastic leakage, the same places light up. We need to support people—less tech, more people."

Iron Software’s funding will cover manufacturing, installation, and daily operation of the barrier, creating formal jobs for local residents while helping to protect the region’s waterways.
