Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro set for Aug 9; Vilamoura race to debut Apr 2027
The Ironman 70.3 Rio de Janeiro will take place on 9 August 2026, featuring a professional field of 37 athletes (27 men and 10 women). The roster includes past Ironman champions such as Fernando Toldi, who won Ironman 70.3 Curitiba, and two‑time Ironman Brazil champion Reinaldo Colucci. International competitors include Serbia’s Ognjen Stojanović, Chile’s Martín Baeza Muñoz, and Switzerland’s Jonathan Guisolan.
Portugal’s Algarve will host the inaugural Ironman 70.3 Vilamoura‑Algarve on 3 April 2027. Registration opened on 30 July and participants can sign up online for fees ranging from €497.26 to €774.90. The race will consist of a 1.9 km swim in the Marina da Praia, a 90 km bike course through the region and a 21.1 km run comprising two laps along the marina, Quarteira beach and the promenade. Thomas Veje Olsen, Ironman’s administrative director, cited the mild climate, proximity to Faro airport and extensive hospitality infrastructure as key reasons for selecting Vilamoura.
