Ironman Wales weekend begins in Tenby with IRONKIDS event

The Ironman Wales weekend has commenced in Tenby, featuring the sold-out IRONKIDS Wales event and the main triathlon competition. Approximately 2,000 children aged three to 15 participated in the IRONKIDS run, which serves to promote healthy lifestyles through age-appropriate distances ranging from 500 metres to 1.5km.

The main Ironman Wales race is scheduled for Sunday, September 13, and includes 3,000 age-group athletes alongside professional competitors. The professional field is competing for a $100,000 prize pool and qualification slots for the 2027 Ironman World Championship. Notable participants include former winner Nikki Bartlett, as well as Diede Diederiks, Merle Brunnée, Dylan Magnien, Henrik Goesch, and Cameron Wurf.

The course includes a swim at North Beach, a 112-mile bike route through the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, and a run segment that includes the challenging ‘Heartbreak Hill’ near Saundersfoot.
