Ironman World Championship returns to Hawaii

The Ironman World Championship is returning to Hawaii on October 10, marking the first time since 2019 that both men and women will compete for the title on the same day.

German triathlete Laura Philipp, the 2024 Ironman World Champion in Nice and a three-time European Champion, seeks to complete her career by winning in Kona. Having previously finished as high as third in Hawaii, she enters the race looking to secure the prestigious title.

Preparation for the event has faced challenges, including the impact of Hurricane Nolo. While the storm has moved away from the islands, it previously prompted flash flood warnings and federal aid for Hawaii. Additionally, defending champion Casper Stornes was forced to withdraw from the race after suffering a broken collarbone and a fractured lumbar vertebra following a cycling accident caused by wind gusts.
