Irpinia traditions: Local festivals celebrate food and folklore
Various traditional festivals are being held in the Irpinia region of Italy. In Volturara Irpina, the 14th edition of the Festa del Fagiolo Quarantino is scheduled for September 11–13, 2026. The event celebrates the Fagiolo Quarantino, a local legume variety recognized as a Slow Food Presidium, featuring traditional cuisine and folk music in the Piana del Dragone.
In Altavilla Irpina, the 45th Palio dell'Anguria has returned following a one-year hiatus. The event features 150 participants in a historical reenactment centered on the legend of the “Regina Triste” (Sad Queen) Costanza di Chiaromonte. The festivities include a procession and roles played by local actors and performers, celebrating the town's history and folklore.
