Colombia businessman jailed for textile smuggling and money laundering

Abud Manopla Abadid, a major shareholder in several textile importing companies, has been sent to prison following allegations of involvement in a large-scale smuggling and money laundering scheme. The Colombian Prosecutor General's Office reports that the operation involved the irregular entry of 21 containers of goods from China and Panama through customs irregularities, including product undervaluation and false tariff classifications.

Authorities seized merchandise valued at approximately 6 billion pesos during procedures in Cartagena and Buenaventura. The investigation suggests that six different companies were used to conceal and channel more than 13.7 billion pesos. Financial analyses revealed significant discrepancies between reported import values and international payments, alongside unexplained increases in wealth.
