Irrigation canal collapse blocks Elbasan-Cërrik road

A major irrigation canal collapse has blocked the Elbasan-Cërrik road near the village of Kuqan in central Albania. The collapse involved a 20-meter section of one of the region's largest and most significant irrigation canals.

The breach caused water to overflow its banks, carrying soil and debris from surrounding hills onto the roadway. This accumulation of water and mud has completely obstructed vehicle traffic on this segment of the road.

Authorities have not yet determined if the collapse was caused by structural aging or other factors. Responsible agencies are expected to intervene to clear the debris, manage the water, and repair the canal to restore traffic flow. Drivers are advised to exercise extreme caution and avoid the affected area until the situation is normalized.
