Irun: Man arrested for sexual assault and unlawful detention

A 40-year-old man has been arrested in Irun, Spain, following a sexual assault at a prostitution house. Local police (Udaltzaingoa) and the Basque police (Ertzaintza) responded to an alarm triggered by the establishment on Monday evening.

Authorities report that the suspect sexually assaulted a 27-year-old woman and unlawfully detained her at the scene. A second woman, aged 24, reportedly attempted to intervene to assist the victim. The suspect faces charges of sexual assault, unlawful detention, and causing injury.

The Irun Equality Department issued a statement strongly condemning the attack and activating institutional protocols to provide support and resources to the victim.

The LAB union also condemned the incident, emphasizing the right of sex workers to provide and withdraw consent at any time. The union argued that payment does not grant rights over a person's body and called for the recognition of prostitution as work to ensure better protection and legal recourse for workers.
