Siemens Gamesa workers in Asteasu launch indefinite strike

Workers at the Siemens Gamesa plant in Asteasu, Gipuzkoa, have initiated an indefinite strike. The industrial action, supported by the ELA and LAB unions, is a response to management's attempt to implement a collective agreement used in other Spanish plants across the Gipuzkoa facility.

Unions argue that the multinational company is attempting to move collective bargaining away from the Basque Country and the specific Asteasu plant. They are mobilizing to defend their existing local agreement, which expired a year ago. While the strike specifically targets the 180 workers in Asteasu, LAB has indicated that workers in Mungia may also engage in similar actions. Siemens Gamesa employs approximately 2,800 people across the Basque Country, with its largest plant located in Zamudio.
