Irving Oil appoints Alfred Stern as new president and CEO

Irving Oil has announced the appointment of Alfred Stern as its new president and CEO, effective November 1. Stern will join the company on October 1 to begin his transition into the role.

Stern previously served as the chairman of the executive board and CEO of OMV AG, a major European integrated energy, fuels, and chemical company. He brings over 30 years of leadership experience across North America, Asia, Europe, and the Middle East to the private energy corporation.

He succeeds Jeff Matthews, who is set to retire on November 1 after a 32-year tenure with the company. Maureen Kempston Darkes, lead director of the board, stated that the appointment followed an extensive global search to find a leader capable of guiding the company through its next strategic chapter.
