Iryo CEO Fabrizio Favara warned of LZB system issues before Urda accident
Fabrizio Favara, the CEO of high-speed rail operator Iryo, reportedly issued warnings regarding malfunctions in the LZB train protection and supervision system weeks before the railway accident in Urda, Toledo.
The LZB system is designed to control train speeds and maintain safe separation between vehicles. Reports indicate that Favara had previously alerted authorities, including the Senate, to serious problems with the system on the Madrid-Sevilla line, specifically noting difficulties for trains to resume movement.
Investigators are currently analyzing communications between the Iryo driver and the Adif control center to reconstruct the events leading up to the incident. The focus remains on how the system responded during critical moments and whether established safety protocols were followed.
