Iryo to expand Spanish high-speed rail services in 2027

Spanish high-speed rail operator Iryo has announced a significant expansion of its services for 2027. The company plans to increase its operational capacity by 13.8% compared to 2026, reaching a total of 22,764 annual trips. This growth is supported by the addition of three new trains to its fleet.

The expansion focuses heavily on the Andalusia region. The Madrid-Malaga route will see the largest increase, with a 63.7% rise in services, adding 1,367 operations. The Madrid-Sevilla connection is also set to grow by 39%, reaching 3,884 annual trips.

Other notable changes include a 40.8% increase in stops in Cordoba and significant connectivity improvements for intermediate cities such as Ciudad Real and Puertollano, which are expected to see a 207% increase in stops. The Madrid-Barcelona corridor remains the company’s highest-volume route with 7,740 annual frequencies.
