iryo to increase Madrid-Málaga rail connections by 64% by 2027
Private high-speed rail operator iryo has announced plans to significantly expand its service between Madrid and Málaga. By 2027, the company expects a 63.67% increase in connections, raising the number of annual operations from 2,147 to 3,514.
To mark this expansion and strengthen its ties to Andalusia, iryo has named its ninth train 'Calle Marqués de Larios' in honor of Málaga’s iconic street. The unveiling ceremony took place at the María Zambrano station and included the participation of Málaga Mayor Francisco de la Torre and iryo CEO Fabrizio Favara.
Since beginning operations in March 2023, iryo reports serving 3.5 million passengers. The company has already increased daily Málaga-Madrid connections to twelve, with some services continuing to Barcelona. The 'Larios' branding is part of a broader initiative to honor the identity and culture of the various cities the operator serves.
