Isaac Baley receives Fundación Banco Sabadell research award

Mexican economist Isaac Baley has been awarded the ‘Fundación Banco Sabadell a la Investigación Económica’ in Oviedo. His research focuses on the dual nature of economic uncertainty, viewing it not only as an obstacle to decision-making but also as an opportunity for businesses, workers, and politicians to act and gather information to reduce future uncertainty.

During the award ceremony, Josep Oliú, president of Banco Sabadell, noted the relevance of Baley’s work regarding how businesses navigate uncertainty caused by technological shifts and artificial intelligence. Baley emphasized that macroeconomics is essentially a collection of individual decisions, studying how different actors react heterogeneously to major economic phenomena to help shape more effective political responses.

Baley is currently a professor and researcher affiliated with the Barcelona School of Economics, the Centre de Recerca en Economia Internacional (CREI), and Universitat Pompeu Fabra. His professional background includes roles at the ministries of Finance and Economy in Mexico and doctoral studies at New York University.
