Isaac Beacroft sets world record in 5km race walk

Australian athlete Isaac Beacroft set a new world record in the 5km race walk at the World Athletics Under-20 Championships in Eugene, Oregon. Completing the race at Hayward Field in 18:40.37, Beacroft broke the previous world record by more than seven seconds.

This victory follows Beacroft's recent gold medal in the 10km race walk at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, securing him a prestigious double championship win. He finished more than three seconds ahead of silver medalist Huajia Pu of China (18:43.70), while Italy's Nicolo Vidal took third place with a time of 18:56.19.

Beacroft noted the difficulty of the transition from Glasgow to Oregon, citing travel delays and the pressure of maintaining his championship status. In other news from the event, the Australian women's 4x100m sprint team, consisting of Thewbelle Philp, Zara Hagan, Grace Crowe, and Emilia Reed, won their heat.
