Following the victory, Cruz issued a direct challenge to WBC welterweight champion Ryan Garcia. Garcia responded via social media, accepting the challenge and suggesting a December matchup. Garcia noted that he has previously attempted to fight Cruz twice without success and stated that this would be his final attempt to offer a bout.
