Isaac del Toro finishes fifth at World Cycling Championships in Montreal
Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro secured a fifth-place finish at the 2026 World Cycling Championships in Montreal, Canada. Despite a strong performance in the elite men's road race, Del Toro finished behind winner Brandon McNulty and other top competitors, describing the result as “bittersweet” after a highly competitive race.
In light of the rising popularity of cycling in the region, several major events have been announced for 2027. The Colombian Cycling Federation confirmed the return of the Tour Colombia, scheduled for January 26–31, 2027. The event aims to attract WorldTour teams through a coordinated effort between Colombia and Mexico.
Additionally, the Unión Ciclista de México (UCMEX) and the UCI have sanctioned new professional races in Mexico for January 2027. This includes the Clásica de la República, a UCI 1.1 one-day race on January 17, and the Mex Tour, a UCI 2.1 stage race running from January 19 to 23. These events are expected to capitalize on the momentum generated by Del Toro’s international success.
