Isaac del Toro secures historic fifth place at World Cycling Championships

Mexican cyclist Isaac del Toro achieved a historic fifth-place finish in the men's Elite road race at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships in Montreal. Completing the 273-kilometer course with a time of 6:17:18, Del Toro finished just 14 seconds behind the winner, American Brandon McNulty. This performance marks the best result in Mexican history for a World Championship road race.

Del Toro finished within a chasing group that included prominent riders such as Michael Matthews, Mathieu van der Poel, and Quinn Simmons. His performance was supported by teammate Eder Frayre, who executed strategic attacks to fatigue the peloton and create opportunities for Del Toro.

Following the race, Del Toro indicated that he may still compete in Gran Piemonte and Lombardia later in the 2026 season.
