Isaac Herzog supports Jerusalem synagogue after series of attacks
Israeli President Isaac Herzog has expressed solidarity with the leaders of Kol HaNeshama, a Reform synagogue in Jerusalem, following a series of attacks against the congregation. The incidents, which included break-ins, vandalism, and harassment, occurred over several weeks and holidays, including Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
Jerusalem police recently arrested three minors suspected of involvement in property damage and “insult to religion.” Herzog spoke with the congregation’s leading rabbi, Oded Mazor, and executive director, Anna Astmaker, to condemn the harassment and emphasize the importance of freedom of worship in Israel.
Following a discussion with the Jerusalem police commander, Herzog conducted a follow-up call to confirm that the investigation is being taken seriously. Authorities are currently examining whether additional individuals were involved in the targeting of the synagogue.
