Isaac Humphries retires from NBL due to knee injury

Australian basketball player Isaac Humphries has announced his retirement at age 28 due to a degenerative knee injury. The decision follows a season in which the 211cm centre was unable to play for the Adelaide 36ers.

Humphries' eight-season career in the National Basketball League (NBL) included 173 total appearances across franchises such as the Sydney Kings, Melbourne United, and the Adelaide 36ers. His career highlights include being named the NBL Rookie of the Year in 2018 and winning the Adelaide 36ers' Mark Davis Trophy as MVP during the NBL24 season.

Beyond his athletic achievements, Humphries was a prominent figure in the sporting community as the world’s first openly gay professional basketball player. He served as an ambassador for mental health and suicide prevention initiatives and was a vocal supporter of the NBL’s Pride Round.
