Isabel Díaz Ayuso criticizes Spanish government over Ceuta migration crisis

Madrid President Isabel Díaz Ayuso has intensified her political confrontation with the Spanish central government regarding the migration crisis in Ceuta. Ayuso utilized social media to compare the scale of the situation in Ceuta to a hypothetical scenario where 2.5 million people entered Madrid illegally, leaving 500,000 without stable housing. She argued such a situation would create significant issues for security, coexistence, and public health.

Ayuso directed criticism toward Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez and Health Minister Mónica García, accusing the administration of inaction. This follows a visit by García to Ceuta, where the minister acknowledged a humanitarian crisis and a strained healthcare system but rejected claims of a total medical collapse. García emphasized the need for adequate reception spaces and disputed any direct link between migration and disease.

Separately, Ayuso’s defense of her personal property arrangements has drawn scrutiny in media debates. During a television program, commentator Arantxa Sánchez defended Ayuso’s acquisition of a penthouse in Madrid, suggesting she has a right to an official residence. However, political opponents, including Más Madrid deputy Emilio Delgado, contested this, noting that the Statute of Autonomy for the Community of Madrid does not provide for an official residence for the president.
