Isabel Díaz Ayuso faces scrutiny over Chamberí penthouse purchase

Madrid regional President Isabel Díaz Ayuso has faced intense political scrutiny following the purchase of a luxury penthouse in the Chamberí district by the public company Planifica Madrid. The property, which was acquired for 6.3 million euros, was intended to serve as a temporary office for the presidency during renovations of the Real Casa de Correos.

Opposition parties, including the PSOE and Más Madrid, have denounced a lack of transparency, alleging that the administration is withholding access to the purchase files. The regional government has responded by stating that requests for documentation must follow formal parliamentary procedures through the Assembly of Madrid. Ayuso has dismissed the controversy, stating the matter is closed as the property is currently being offered for sale at 6.69 million euros.

Reports indicate that Planifica Madrid had previously considered a different property in the Pintor Rosales area for 4 million euros before selecting the more expensive Chamberí penthouse. While the administration maintains the acquisition was a functional necessity, political leaders like Alberto Núñez Feijóo have questioned why a residential-style property was purchased for office use.
