Isabel Díaz Ayuso defends meeting with Javier Milei amid criticism

Madrid Community President Isabel Díaz Ayuso has defended her recent meeting with Argentine President Javier Milei, despite criticism from the Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE). Ayuso expressed pride in the meeting and dismissed attempts to lecture her on the matter, claiming that the Argentine economy is growing four times faster than Mexico's—a statement identified as factually incorrect based on official statistics from both nations.

The PSOE has accused Ayuso of prioritizing Milei’s austerity measures, referred to as the ‘motosierra’ (chainsaw), over the welfare of people. This political tension occurred alongside protests by public education teachers at the Madrid Assembly, who are participating in an indefinite general strike to demand better salaries, improved infrastructure, and lower student-to-teacher ratios.
