Isabel Díaz Ayuso faces scrutiny over Madrid penthouse purchase and data center regulations

Isabel Díaz Ayuso, President of the Community of Madrid, is facing intense political scrutiny regarding a €6.3 million penthouse purchase in Chamberí by the public company Planifica Madrid. An official dossier has revealed several anomalies, including a lack of documented necessity prior to the purchase and discrepancies regarding the property's intended use. While the regional government initially suggested the property was for institutional use, documentation indicates it was intended for residential purposes. Ayuso has denied any personal interest in the property, stating, “My responsibility is not to manage real estate,” and has characterized the controversy as a campaign of persecution.

Separately, Ayuso has criticized the Spanish central government's proposed Royal Decree to regulate data processing centers (CPD). She warned that the regulation could create legal uncertainty and jeopardize approximately €26 billion in planned investments and 14,000 jobs in the region. These remarks were made during the groundbreaking ceremony for a new Nabiax data center in Alcalá de Henares.

Additionally, Ayuso sparked debate regarding immigration after stating in the Madrid Assembly that she would rather treat a law-abiding Romanian citizen as a priority over a Spanish citizen who commits crimes and occupies housing illegally.
