Chilean President José Antonio Kast receives Madrid International Medal

Chilean President José Antonio Kast has been awarded the International Medal of the Community of Madrid by regional president Isabel Díaz Ayuso. The ceremony took place at the Real Casa de Correos during Kast's first official visit to Spain since assuming office.

Ayuso defended the distinction, stating that Kast represents the defense of freedom, security, and economic prosperity. She highlighted his administration's focus on combating organized crime and promoting a liberal economic model. The award places Kast on a list of previous recipients that includes leaders such as Javier Milei of Argentina and Volodymyr Zelenskyy of Ukraine.

While the regional government praised the move, left-wing opposition in Spain criticized the award, suggesting it serves as a badge for the international far-right. Kast's visit to Madrid also includes participation in the XXX Ibero-American Summit and meetings with various political leaders and the Spanish monarchy.
