Isabel Teixeira reveals Li-Fraumeni syndrome diagnosis
Brazilian actress Isabel Teixeira has revealed her diagnosis of Li-Fraumeni syndrome, a rare hereditary condition that significantly increases the risk of developing tumors. The discovery followed a personal investigation into her family's medical history after the loss of her mother and grandmother to cancer.
Upon receiving the diagnosis, Teixeira implemented drastic lifestyle changes, including quitting smoking, eliminating alcohol consumption, and increasing physical exercise. She also underwent a preventive mastectomy to mitigate health risks.
Genetic testing within her family revealed that while her son did not inherit the mutation, her daughter tested positive. Medical experts note that the syndrome involves a failure in the TP53 gene, often referred to as the “guardian” of the organism, which normally prevents the uncontrolled proliferation of harmful cells. The case highlights the importance of family medical mapping to facilitate early diagnosis and preventive care.
