Isabella Javadan arrested during Congressional protest against Iran sanctions
Isabella Javadan, an Iranian-American activist and communications director for the National Iranian American Council, was arrested during a protest at the U.S. House Financial Services Committee on September 15, 2026.
Javadan, along with activists from groups such as Code Pink and Cuban-American advocates, interrupted a speech by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent. The protesters demanded an end to American economic sanctions against Iran and Cuba, with Javadan stating that such policies aim to “keep Iran hungry.”
Javadan, a graduate of American University with a background in international affairs, has a history of political activism. In July 2026, she was also detained after interrupting a request by Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for additional military funding for operations against Iran.
