Isabella Rossellini honored with Excellence Award at Locarno Film Festival

The 79th Locarno Film Festival opened on August 5, 2026, highlighted by the presentation of the Excellence Award to Isabella Rossellini. The ceremony, held at Piazza Grande, honored the actress's diverse career spanning film, modeling, and directing.

Rossellini noted the personal significance of the recognition, connecting her achievement to her family's cinematic legacy. Her father, Roberto Rossellini, received an award at the festival in 1948 for 'Germany Year Zero.'

The opening night also featured the screening of 'Les Yeux verts,' the second feature film from French directors Fanny Liatard and Jérémy Trouilh. The film follows an Iraqi migrant family in France struggling with residency issues and the emotional trauma of the characters.
